Prayers for Rafe

The following was taken from Meghan Newsam’s Facebook page ‘Prayers for Rafe.’
Week 12 of our pregnancy at our first checkup we were told that I had a tear or rupture in the baby's sack or membrane. They said at that time my amniotic fluid was very low and they wanted me to see a high risk specialist. We saw the high risk specialist the next week. We were told from the first appointment that I could miscarry or go into labor at any time. They wanted to see the fluid be built back up next time I came in and we were given good news at the next appointment that he was satisfied with the build up. He thought the sack could have resealed itself but more than likely it was still leaking. The concern for low fluid was weeks 18 to 22 when the baby's lungs develop. The lungs need the amniotic fluid to develop. However, as the baby grew I began to leak more fluid over the following weeks. He said we needed to get to 23 or 24 weeks before the baby had a chance of survival. Both my regular OB and the high risk specialist recommended that at that point I should be admitted to the hospital until the baby is born.
I am headed to Sioux Falls this weekend and will be admitted to the Sanford Maternal Fetal medicine medical building. Will try to get the address for it posted. This is a building for women that are going through the same problem or other high risk problems that have to go in early like me. They plan on monitoring the baby's vitals around the clock and starting a round of steroids to help develop the baby's lungs. I could go into early labor at any time or develop an infection from exposure due to the ruptured membrane. All of these are realistic possibilities but we choose to believe God has a plan for us and baby! We have come this far and are grateful for that!
