Alice Caroline (Frisbie) Horsley

In Loving Memory of Alice Caroline (Frisbie) Horsley (Social Butterfly)

Alice was born February 23, 1921, to Minnie Caroline (Saville) Frisbie and Edgar Leroy Frisbie near Vivian, South Dakota. Alice was the oldest of five girls. She attended the lower grades in Prairie Flower School. Alice accepted Jesus Christ into her life in May of 1935, at age 14, while attending a revival service held in the Vera School. Later she attended the Vera School near where she lived and went on to graduate from Draper High School in 1940 with a class of 6 others. She left home and worked for Harold and Ann Louder and helped with their son Neva when he was born. After graduation Alice attended Dakota Wesleyan for missionary service for only a few months. Upon returning to Draper area she did domestic work in several homes until she went to Denver, Colorado, with sisters Edna and Irma and Aunt Eva where they found work. While in Denver on August 9, 1945 she married George Berkley Horsley when he returned from World War II on the Queen Mary. They lived and farmed west of Draper for 19 years. Then in 1964 a little girl joined the family and was named Caroline Mae. The family moved into a 3 apartment barracks in Draper.

Alice has been a member of High School Glee Club, Prairie Home Ladies since 1945, American Legion Auxiliary since 1946, Methodist Church and Senior Citizens, and the Anchorage Baptist Temple Church.

Throughout her life she worked as a domestic helper in several homes. She worked 18 years as house maid in motels (Murdo and Pierre). She worked maintenance at the Pierre Indian Learning Center for 2 school terms. Alice helped Bob Lake care for his wife and her sister Edna in Buena Park, Calif., until her death in 1985. Then Alice worked caring for others. In April of 1987 she was called to take care of her own mother Minnie, and later cared for her Uncle Glen in Draper.

Alice traveled to Branson, Mo.; LeMars, Iowa; Kansas City, Mo.; California; Florida; and 10 trips to Alaska. In 2015 Alice moved to Anchorage, Alaska to be closer to her daughter, 3 grandsons, and now 7 great grandchildren.

Alice is survived by daughter Caroline (Bernie Sullivan), Grandsons Brandon Briley (Shannon), Bradley Briley (Alicia), Brent Briley and Great Grandchildren Nyla, Nira, India, Quinn, Cason, Dylan and Everett as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alice enjoyed singing, playing the piano, and harmonica.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 in Draper, S.D. at Draper Methodist Church, and then a reception with family and friends will follow in the Draper Auditorium Annex. (Times to be determined later.)
