Alice LaVerne (Larsen) McGuire, age 87

Alice L. McGuire

Alice LaVerne (Larsen) McGuire, age 87, passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017.  
 
Alice was born May 1, 1930, in Pierre to John Richard Larsen and Lucy Irene (Ward) Larsen. 
 
Alice attended and graduated school in Midland in 1948. She attended Yankton College for three years and taught the third and fourth grades at Midland grade school.
On Nov. 17, 1951, Alice married Francis Charles McGuire and raised five children, Ann McGuire, Fort Worth, Texas, Ellen Reddick, St. Onge, Jo Vroman, St.Onge, John McGuire, Rapid City, and Jacki Hutter, Billings, Mont.   Jacki, Jo and John are triplets born on Christmas Day. 
 
   The family lived briefly in Wessington. They then lived in the underground house on Alice's parent’s ranch at Midland. Mac worked on the Larsen and Hermon Bork ranches until 1958 when they moved to Caputa, where the children were raised.
 
Mac passed away March 12, 1996, while vacationing in Yuma, Ariz. Alice continued to live in Caputa until 2007, when she moved to Rapid City and lived out her final years.
 
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and John Larsen; her husband, Francis (Mac) McGuire; two grandchildren, Sebastian and Cherie Lusty-Wallis; and a son-in-law, Duane Reddick.  
 
Survivors include daughter, Ann McGuire, and sons, Carl and Clayton Lusty-Wallis; daughter, Ellen Reddick, and daughters, Erin and Tara Reddick, children, Bridger and Micah and friend, Billy Hougham; daughter, Jo Vroman and husband, Mark, children, Nikki, Lisa and husband, Chance Kvistad, and children, Kayden, Mylee and Harlan; Lona and husband, Jake Downs, and daughter, Alexa; son, John McGuire and sons, Shawn McGuire and wife, Stephanie, children, Dylan and Gavin; son, Justin McGuire and son, Brian and wife, Emily, their children, Liliana and Nikolai McGuire; and daughter, Jacki Hutter, and her sons, Matthew and Jacob.
 
Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.  
 
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, 423 Elm St., St. Onge, with Pastor Del Neumeister officiating.
