Aloyisous Eugene Deibert

Aloyisous Eugene Deibert, known affectionately as Gene, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, at the age of 91, with loved ones by his side. Gene was born in South Dakota on June 21, 1933, the son of August and Eva (Schmaltz) Deibert. Gene was an honest man who believed in commitment and hard work. He was married to the love of his life, Carol, just shy of 60 years. He worked as a ranch hand before serving in the United States Army for six years, then returned to ranching and became foreman until he moved his family to Michigan in 1965 where he dedicated 35 years of skillful work as a union carpenter. He was also a "Jack of All Trades" and could fix or do just about anything.
Gene's love for the outdoors was matched by his passion for gardening, where he found solace and joy. Old tractors brought a glint to his eye, and he could out-dance others with his lively steps. A loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers, he enjoyed watching westerns, immersing himself in country music, cheering at rodeos, and enjoying his luck at playing the lottery and solitaire.
Gene is survived by his children: Barbara Noteboom, Donald Deibert, Marilyn (Robert Whaley) Dawe, James (Darla) Deibert, and Crystal (Steven) Green, son in law: Thomas McGhee, brothers: August Deibert and George Deibert, twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Carol (Smith) Deibert, daughter: Paula McGhee, and ten siblings.
A celebration of life and luncheon will take place on December 28, 2024, 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Hickory Corners American Legion Post 484. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
