Bernice Anderson, age 90, of Wall, S.D., died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.
Bernice C. Sebade was born August 13, 1926, in Wall, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Mooney) Sebade. She grew up in Wall and as a young girl she worked for her parents at the drug store, and also her Aunt Louise Schone at her cafe. She received her education in Wall, graduating from Wall High School.
After graduation, she moved to Washington state where she worked for Boeing during the World War II. She then returned to Wall, where she met Frank Anderson. They were united in marriage on May 11, 1946, in Wall; and to this union were born four children, Gloria, Linda, Craig and Gwen. They made their home north of Wall on George Anderson’s homestead. Later, they moved to the river breaks until Frank’s father’s death, when they moved to their current location northwest of Wall.
After she raised her children, she began working at Wall Drug. She found a great amount of enjoyment working with the young people and meeting people from various states. She also served on the election board for many years. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall, and was instrumental in the building of the new church. Due to health reasons, she spent the last five years of her life at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.
Survivors include her husband, Frank, of Wall; four children, Gloria Gunn and her husband, Rodney, of Rapid City, Linda Kooiker and her husband, Brad, of Harrisburg, Craig Anderson of Wall, and Gwen Davis and her husband, Wayne, of Wall; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Paulson, of Wall; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Norman, Delbert and Dayton Sebade; and one sister, Eunice Johnson.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall, with Father Tim Hoag as celebrant.
Interment will be at the Wall Cemetery.
