Bessie O'Bryan

Bessie O'Bryan of Rapid City formerly of Wall, South Dakota, died on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Avantara Saint Cloud Nursing Home in Rapid City at the age of 88.
Bessie Irene (Morgan) O’Bryan was born on September 6, 1931, in Custer, South Dakota. Her parents, Herb and Polly Morgan, welcomed five sons and three daughters into the world. Bessie spent most of her years around Quinn going to Quinn High School and later to Black Hills College so she could teach school.
Bessie was united in marriage to Faye Howard O’Bryan on June 1, 1950, and they lived on a farm on Big Foote Road. Faye and Bessie had four daughters and one son: Patsy Silva, Sharon Barnett, Catie Hein, Linda Hilgemann, and Dale O’Bryan. Faye and Bessie farmed the land, milked dairy cows, and ran cattle until Faye died in 1995.
Bessie loved caring for her children and grandchildren, being part of the large Morgan Family, and working on the farm with her family. She sewed many of her daughter’s clothes and later made numerous quilts.
Bessie loved to sing. She hummed while she worked, cooked, and sewed. She sang to her daughters as they grew up, and she loved to sing in church. She taught her daughters to work hard, give to others, and love the Lord. Bessie was known by many for her sweet smile and her gentle nature.
Bessie is survived by her daughter’s families: Patsy and Dave Silva; Sharon and Bruce Barnett with Christal Noonan and Tom Harmon, MeLisa and Gabe Ellerton, and Tifanie and Eric Petro; Catherine “Catie” and Dale Hein with William Hein and Emily and Luis Garcia; and Linda and Brett Hilgemann with Stephanie and Eddie Carmody and Brittney Hilgemann and fiancé Brenten Landis. Bessie has numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Alfred Morgan and Stanley Morgan, and her sisters Bertha Warner and Ethel Bader.
She was preceded in death by her husband Faye O'Bryan on January 27, 1995; son, Dale O'Bryan; her parents Herb and Polly Morgan; and three brothers Raymond, John, and Victor Morgan.
