Bill Lyle

Bill Lyle, age 79, of Wall, South Dakota, died on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Scotchman Living Center in Philip.
William C. “Bill” Lyle was born October 7, 1943, in Rapid City, South Dakota, the son of Clarence and Margaret (Kelly) Lyle. Bill grew up in Quinn, graduating from Quinn High School in 1961. He then attended a year and a half at Chadron State College before moving back and hauling gravel for his dad.
Bill joined the US Army on January 18, 1967, working as a veterinary assistant, spending one year in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he came back home and hauled gravel. In 1972 through 1974, Bill worked as an over the road trucker, trucking to the west coast and back. In March 1975, he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska and worked as a mechanic on the pipeline for 20 years. After that he started hauling fuel in Alaska. In 2013, Bill started spending his winters in South Dakota and summers in Alaska. In 2019, he moved to Wall permanently, where he has since resided.
Bill was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post of Wall, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Quinn. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Fairbanks, a current member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall, and a former member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church of Quinn.
Survivors include his sister Patty Huether of Wall; nephews: Tim (Marie) Huether of Martin, SD; Tony (Marci) Huether of Rapid City, SD; Marty (Susan) Huether of Wall, SD; and Will (Amy) Huether of New Underwood, SD; nieces: Lynn (Fred) Dewey of Moorcroft, WY; and Marilyn Huether of Wall, SD; nephews: Donnie Lyle, Terry Lyle, Dennis (Angela) Lyle of Billings, MT and Thomas Lyle of Tooele, UT; and niece Cindy Martinez of Billings, MT.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Danny Lyle and his wife Kathryn; a brother-in-law William (Sonny) Huether; nephews Rick Huether and Mike Huether; niece Linda Dorsett; great-nephew Jacob Huether; and great-niece Rachael Huether.
Visitation will be held 5-6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Sunday April 2, 2023 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wall.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2023 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wall with Father Tyler Dennis as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Quinn.
