David George Schauer was born on April 3, 1942 at the Schauer Farm, the 10th child among the 13 children born to Jacob Jr. and Louisa (Dill-Zimmerman) Schauer.  He was delivered by Doc Hill.

David attended Alden Country School for a part of 2 years, before going into town to the Regent Public School, graduating with the class of 1961. During his school years he participated in all sports that were offered and was a very good athlete.

During his senior year he joined the Mott National Guard Unit. He did his Basic and AIT training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, later his guard unit was called to Fort Riley, Kansas during the Berlin Crisis.

He attended Bismarck State College for a short time before attending aeronautical training in Denver and then the Hettinger Airport, obtaining his commercial pilot’s license. He took pleasure in flying around the area giving rides and going for visits, he also did a few chartered flights.

He started a custom combining business which he eventually turned over to his now brother-in-law, Ken Kouba. He was a successful farmer using his God given gifting to help out many people in different ways.

In 1969 the six brothers Carl, Jake, Sam, David, Russ and Ron purchased land between Faith and Dupree, SD which started Schauer Bros. Farms. He traveled to other countries, and spent many winters going south with friends.
David was a private person, keeping many things to himself, but, oh, how he was loved and respected by many. He had a soft and generous heart. He was an open heart patient and spent his last months at the Mott Good Samaritan Nursing Center battling a long journey with cancer.

The family would like to thank all who were involved in his life and being there to encourage him, with cards, visits, phone calls and prayers or anything that you did. "Thank you!”

Grateful for having shared in David’s life are his brothers, Carl (Velma) Schauer, Dupree, SD, Jake (Arlene) Schauer, Faith, SD, Sam (Linda) Schauer, Leola, SD, and Russell (Sharon) Schauer, Regent, ND; his sisters, Emma Schaible, Mott, ND, Elizabeth Colgrove, Buffalo, SD, Karolina Nible, Rapid City, SD and Linda (Kenneth) Kouba, Regent, ND; 33 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
