Donald F. “Don” Nash, age 73, Brookings, S.D. passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the United Living Community in Brookings, S.D.
 
Memorial Services have been set for 11 a.m. on Friday, October 27, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings, S.D. Memorial Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at First United Methodist Church. Graveside Services will be held at a later date at the Murdo Cemetery, Murdo, S.D. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the services. In Lieu of flowers Don requested memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund in his name.
 
Donald F. “Don” Nash was born in Murdo, S.D., the son of Frank and Marie (McDonnell) Nash on April 23, 1944. He was a 12 year club member of the Class of 1962 of Murdo High School and he attended college at South Dakota State University, Brookings, S.D.  He then joined the Engineering Division of the South Dakota Department of Transportation, stationed in Martin, S.D. from 1965 to 1968, Sisseton from 1976 to 1983 and Brookings from 1983 to 1999. He retired in Brookings after 34 years of service.
 
Don was a very active member of the United Methodist Church as a lay member to Annual Conference from Murdo and Brookings.  He was the Associate Conference Lay Leader from the Dakotas from 1998 to 2004. He was involved with the Dakotas Walk to Emmaus, local church involvement as a lay member to Annual Conference, the chair of the church council, Worship Committee, Finance Committee, Local Lay Leader, Pastor –Staff Committee, SOUL, UMM and Choir.  He was a member of the Brookings Senior Center and driver for the Volunteer Service Bank, driving people to medical appointments.
 
Don is survived by his brother, Russell, Pierre; niece, Kelcy, Pierre; nephew, Adam (Amanda) and great nieces, Breanna and Kennedy, Elkton, S.D., along with many cousins. His coffee friends were very important to him to keep him involved in the community. 
 
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank in 1979; his brother, Keith in 2005 and his mother, Marie in 2009.
