Dorothy Elizabeth Byers McCall passed away on June 17, 2024 at Davis hospice in Cheyenne Wyoming after a brief illness.
She was born October 15,1924 to Dyson and Elizabeth Williams Byers (Toble) on her parents homestead near Cash, SD
Dorothy was the youngest of five children and was raised and educated in Perkins county South Dakota.
After graduating from Bison Highschool in 1943, she moved to Cheyenne Wy where she lived and worked at Fort FE Warren. She lived at the Fort during WWII with her sister and brother-in-law. There she met Fred F. McCall. They married on Valentines Day 1947 at the Trinity Methodist church in Denver Co. They were together 69 years before his passing in 2015. To this union were born four children; Linda, Larry, Dale and Dennis.
Dorothy was a wonderful wife and Mother. She loved her family very much and was involved in all her children’s activities. She was an excellent homemaker and a wonderful cook known for her apple pies, homemade ice cream and potato salad!
When the children were raised she went back to work at FE Warren AFB. During the war she was a clerk/secretary in Purchasing and Contracting. Later she worked at the Base Library and the 90th Transportation Squadron where she retired in 1986. She loved her work and took great pride in the many awards she received for her excellence.
She loved to dance! She and Fred belonged to many ballroom, square and round dance groups.
They also loved to travel the country going to every state but four.
Dorothy was an amateur photographer who had an eye for beauty and we have the 8000 slides to prove it!
Her other talents included her love for playing the piano. At a very early age she was taught how to chord by her Mother. She never read notes but could play any song by ear. She knew over 2000. She even had a band in high school she called the “Jive Bombers!”
Dorothy was a wonderful seamstress making her own square dance dresses. She also loved to paint.
She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, her mother and father, her two sisters Florence V. Blackburn and Evelyn M.Hruby, her two brothers Ralph D. Byers and Lloyd M. Byers. Her stepfather Gus Toble.
Dorothy is lovingly survived by her four children: Linda D Shelton, Wheatland Wy; Larry (Peggy) McCall, Gilbert Az.; Dale (Jill) McCall, Prescott Az; Dennis McCall, Cheyenne, Wy.
Grand children : Dr.Troy (Dr.Julie) Shelton, Winona Mn.; Heather (Bill) Gould, Highlands Ranch, Co; Michelle Brackeen, Cheyenne, Wy; Dr.Tanya (James) Borden, Cheyenne, Wy; Dr. Shane (Tish) McCall, Phoenix, Az.; Ben (Stephanie) McCall, Holladay, Ut; Jared McCall, Fort Collins, Co.,Dr. Cindy (Doug) Janicik, Gilbert AZ, Christina Mason, Gilbert AZ.
Great grand children: Tim shelton, Cathy Call, Jamie Shelton, Aiden Shelton, Ava Shelton, Spencer Shelton, Liam Shelton, Drew Gould, Elizabeth Gould-Moran, Kelsey Brackeen, Maverick Mc Call, Payton McCall, Marlie McCall, Jacob Pace, Jessica Christiansen, Cooper McCall, Asher McCall,
Conner Mason, Juliet Mason, Roxanne Mason, Adam Janicik, Adam Scott, Chloe Janicik,
Great Great grandchildren Emma Pace, Maddie Pace, Aurelia Chavez, Evander Call, Sylis Dilliplaine, Norah Scott.
A memorial celebration of her 100 years of life will be held in October.
