Dorothy Helen (Hoar) Haugen passed peacefully from this life on July 3, 2017. She was born on February 3, 1926 to Henry and Helen (McKinstry) Hoar. She spent her youth surrounded by McKinstry family on the Hat Ranch west of Bison. Her memories of that time were wonderful and full of love, except for all the snakes down by the creek, but she loved frogs.

Upon graduation, she and her sister Gwyneth ventured to Oregon. They had a great time picking fruit and visiting relatives, but love called them back to Bison. She married Howard Haugen and settled on the farm homesteaded by his dad and there she learned to drive. They spent their entire life there until failing health moved them to the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Mott, ND.

Growing up in the “dirty thirties” left quite an impression on her and she was always very frugal.

Dorothy loved to be busy. You could always find a cup of coffee and a cookie in her shiny clean kitchen. She was a lifetime member of the Bison American Lutheran Church, local and state Extension club and historical society. Bowling was a favorite pastime. They traveled to many historical sites and old cemeteries, often doing research for families looking for lost relatives.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Howard Edward; two children, Howard Allen (Connie) Haugen and Betty June (Bill) Losey; two grand daughters, Dorinda Haugen and Michion Welling; two great grand children, Julian and Melia Welling; step grandsons, Myron (Sarah) Lemer, Jeff Lemer; step great children, Molly, Melany and Henry Lemer and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is also survived by sisters in law Hazel Heinrick and Gladys Dempsey.

Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
