Dorothy Louder, age 86

Dorothy Louder

Dorothy Louder, 86, of Draper, died Monday, January 2 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital.

Dorothy Delores (Volmer) Louder was born on December 12, 1930 to John and Annie (Medeck) Volmer. Dorothy attended Draper public school and graduated from Draper High School in 1950. She lived her first 18 years of life in the little house on the hill east of Draper. On June 15, 1950 she married her high school sweetheart, Dwight Louder. From this union came six children, Bradley, Randall, Roxanne, Susan, Kevin and Darin.

Dwight and Dorothy started farming and ranching north of Draper, moving onto the Marshall homestead, where she resided until moving to Edgewood Senior Living in Pierre, S.D., in September of 2016. Dorothy had great stories to tell of her Dad running the gas station and the great life of living in Draper in her early years. Dorothy’s life was farming and ranching and raising her six children and several grandchildren. Dorothy was still cooking for her boys up until moving into Edgewood when she would finally retire. Up to the day she died, she wondered who was making dinner and if they got the cows fed.

Dwight and Dorothy were married almost 66 years when Dwight passed away on May 2, 2016.

Dorothy passed away on January 2, 2017 at Avera St Mary’s Hospital at the age of 86 years.  Dorothy is survived by sons Bradley of Draper; Randall (Sue Fairchild) of Townsend, Mont.; Kevin and wife Laura of Draper; Darin (Lisa Cline) of Draper; daughters Roxanne Whitaker and husband Carl of Aubrey, Texas, and Susan Hamer and husband Charles of Kennebec; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Nelva Louder and wife Janet of Rapid City, Marvin Buxcell of Pierre; three sisters-in-law, Deanna Byrd of Kadoka, Linda Louder of Elk-River, Minn., and Joy Carlson of Rapid City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
