Edward "Ed" Ferguson

Edward "Ed" Ferguson, age 69, of Norris, South Dakota, died on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Edward Lee Ferguson was born on January 13, 1950, the youngest of six children born to “Cap” Irwin W. and “Alice” LaClaire Drury Ferguson.
Ed grew up and attended grade school in the Weta community. He attended and graduated from Kadoka High School in 1968. As a Junior, Ed met Carol Kaufman, the love of his life. On a dare of a friend, Ed asked Carol out, and they were inseparable for the next 53 years. They were united in marriage on September 20, 1969.
Ed was raised a cattle and horseman and was never happier than when he was riding a good horse. Ed and Carol lived and worked around Kadoka until they rented a farm in Todd county and moved with their three children to a house south of the HeDog School in 1974. Their youngest son was born in 1977. They bought their ranch by Norris and made one last move in 1979. Besides being a rancher, Ed drove the Todd County maintainer, served as Blackpipe Township Supervisor, and was a brand inspector for 30 years. He was baptized and confirmed into the congregation at St. John Lutheran Church in 1971 and served as an elder there.
Ed loved “neighboring”, helping work cattle, or with some project that needed done. He had a joyful smile, ready joke, and loved to tease. He could talk to any one and had friends wherever he went. He also loved to travel. Every year they would take the children somewhere new. In 2015, Ed and Carol bought a camper and took off to seriously see the country. They roamed whichever way a notion took them. To Ed, the best part was making new friends at night around a campfire.
Ed passed away on December 15, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls surrounded by people he loved.
He leaves behind his partner, wife, and best friend, Carol of Norris; the sons he was so proud of: Jesse Ferguson of Norris, Pete Ferguson and his wife Marla of Norris, and Cole Ferguson of Rapid City; his precious daughter Cora (Scott) Brickman of Rapid City; four grandchildren: Kaitlyn Ferguson, Moya Brickman, Olivia Wooden Knife, and Michael Grass, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren William, NaTalia, Paisley, Bayn, Cole, Colton, and Carter; three brothers Charles “Chuck” Ferguson and his wife Patsy of Lexington, South Carolina, Irwin Ferguson and his wife Patsy of Kadoka, and Owen Ferguson and his wife Bonnie of Longvalley; two sisters Chloe Wiginton and her husband Larry of Colbert, Oklahoma, and Clathy Renteria and her husband Danny of Marlow, Oklahoma; his large extended family and many friends;
