Elmer Red Eyes

Elmer Red Eyes, age 74, of Wanblee, S.D., died on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 at his home.
 
Elmer was born on Oct. 7, 1942, to Walter and Isabel (Cutt) Red Eyes. He grew up in the Sand Creek Community northwest of Wanblee and later the family moved into Wanblee where he continued to reside his entire life in the same home.
 
Survivors include his next of kin, Emma Swift Hawk of Wanblee and her children, Brittany, Spring and Macy Pumpkin Seed, Emily, Autumn and Kaden Rosebud, Eugene and Dennis Cody, all of Wanblee; caregivers, Martha Spotted Elk, Julia Rosebud, Austin Rosebud, Stephanie Waters, Blaine Little Thunder and Meg Musselman. His family names are Spotted Elk, Cutt, Iron Rope, Swift Hawk, Poor Bear and Tiospaye.
 
  Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Raymond “Chili” Red Eyes.
 
Visitation will begin at noon on Friday, Feb. 3, at the CAP office in Wanblee.
 
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the CAP office in Wanblee with Harrold Eagle Bull and Francis Cutt officiating. 
 
Traditional prayer will be said by Richard Moves Camp and music will be traditional songs. Pallbearers will be Calvin Red Elk, Ronnie Cutt, Homer Spotted Elk, Brady Bearstops, Melvin Bad Hand, Eugene Swift Hawk, Bernard Moves Camp, and Blaine Little Thunder. Honorary pallbearers are all family and friends in attendance.
 
Interment will be at the Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery in Wanblee.
 
Arrangements are with Rush Funeral Home of Philip.
