George Harwood, Jr.
George Jr. Harwood, 85, Loma Linda, Calif, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Loma Linda.
He was born Sept. 19, 1930, to George and Zilvia Harwood on a farm near Elm Springs. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict.
George was a dedicated employee at Homestake Gold Mine for 32 years. When he retired, George purchased a motor home and traveled the 50 states and eventually settled in San Bernardino, Calif., where he had lived for the last four years.
Survivors include a sister, Zora Barry, Rapid City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Zilvia Harwood; brothers, Alvin and Virgil Harwood; and sisters, Erma Santistevan, Wilma Eisenbraun and Zella Couch.
Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Black Hills Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Sturzenbecher officiating.
Interment was at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors conducted by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.
