Gerald Bollinger, age 86, Sun Lakes, Arizona, formerly of Pierre, died March 20, 2017 at his home in Arizona. Visitation will be 5-6 p.m., Thursday, September 10 at Isburg Funeral Chapel with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m., Friday, August 11 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Inurnment will be September 28, 2017, at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis.
 
G.E. Bollinger born on December 25, 1930 to Alice and William Bollinger. On March 20, 2017, Gerald passed away peacefully at his home in Ariz. from complications of pneumonia, with his wife Rose by his side. 
 
Gerald attended Cathedral High School graduating in 1948. He went on to attend University of South Dakota graduating in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and a ROTC commission as a second lieutenant of Infantry. In 1956 he graduated with a Law Degree from USD with honors. Gerald began a law practice in Woonsocket, S.D. and raised his family there until 1981.
 
For years he was a Sanborn County Prosecutor and he served the legal profession with two terms as President of the State Attorney Association of the State of South Dakota and the S.D. State Bar by six years on the state board of Bar Examiners. He loved outdoor recreation; big game hunting-pheasant and deer, fishing and golf.
 
Gerald was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a District Deputy and State Advocate. He was a long time member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army and S.D. National Guard as an Infantry and Engineer Corps Captain for 11 years. Gerald E. Bollinger accomplished many positions in serving his state and country.
 
In 2008 Gerald lost his wife Mary Jean Bollinger and in 2010 he met Rose Zaiko Egan and they were united in marriage in Sun Lakes, AZ. 
 
Survivors include his wife Rose; two stepsons: Curtis and David Egan, along with two brothers-in-law: John and Steven Zaiko. His children: Deborah M. Bollinger, Mark and Julie Bollinger, Scott and Deb Bollinger and Gregg and JoAnn Bollinger; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and sister Mary Alice and Church Searls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Jean and daughter Karen Bollinger Triem.
 
Memorials may be directed to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Pierre or St. John’s Catholic Church, Ft. Pierre.
