Hannelore (Lore) Ausdal

Hannelore (Lore) Ausdal, age 82, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024, at the Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.

Lore was born in Troppau, Czech (occupied Germany) on February 22, 1942 to Theobald & Helene Dietze.  She was doing an apprenticeship as a photo lab tech when her cousin asked her to go on a blind date.  That is when she met the love of her life, Donald Ausdal, an American US Airman from Marshalltown, Iowa, that was stationed close to where she grew up in Wiesbaden, Germany.  The two married on April 18, 1959.  They were blessed with three children, Mike Ausdal, Donna Foss and Teri Arneson.

Being married to a military man took them on wonderful adventures and travels, and boy did the family travel in their new 1968 Plymouth Satellite sedan, and it even had A/C!  They were stationed in Greenville, South Carolina; Phoenix, Arizona; Savannah, Georgia; Braintree, England; Zaragoza, Spain, and then orders sent them to Rapid City, SD in 1974.

Don and Lore built their dream house and finally had a place they called home in Rapid City.  Lore started work later in life, when the children got older.  She worked at Ellsworth Air Force Base Dining Hall, Mr. Party Liquors, and became a nanny for Dr. Paul Wright's family until she retired.

Lore was a lifetime member of the Rushmore German Club.  She loved her German music; she met so many friends through the club and she loved to dance.  Lore will be remembered as always wearing dresses and for her German accent.

She is survived by her three children, Mike Ausdal of Rapid City, Donna Foss of Rapid City, and Teri (Lonnie) Arneson of Elm Springs, SD; eight grandkids:  Mikey, Tawni (Austin), Joey, Hansel, Aaron, Chaz (Kristin), Lauren (Seth), & Kylie;  five great-grandkids:  Keira, Tripp, Blye, Ryer and Nixen, and a bonus one, Averie;  her sister, Ingeborg Carroll and a very special niece, Sabine Frauenstein, both of Wiesbaden, Germany; and also, ex son-in-law, Stuart Foss, of Rapid City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ausdal; parents, Theobald and Helene; sisters, Vera and Edith; brothers, Reimund and Wolfgang; and two nephews, Reiner and Michael.

Special thank you to Kelley (her home nurse), the staff at Interim Health Care, Monument Hospice House, and her granddaughter, Kylie Ramsdell, for living with her and taking care of her over the past year.

Lore requested a family only burial at the Black Hills National Cemetery, where she will be with her beloved husband, Don.  She requested no flowers.  A memorial has been established.

Cards can be mailed to 20886 River Road, Elm Springs, SD 57791  - C/O Teri Arneson.
