Harold V. Curtis, Jr.

Harold Vernon Curtis, Jr., age 74, of Rapid City, S.D., died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at his home.
 
Harold Vernon Curtis, Jr. was born Sept. 22, 1942, in New Underwood, S.D., to Harold and Stella Chadwick Curtis.
 
Harold grew up on the Curtis family homestead at Milesville. Harold started working at a young age, working for other ranchers in the Milesville area. He drove semi for Hoag Trucking. In the early 1960s, he worked at missile sites in Cheyenne, Wyo. He drove truck for Marsh Foods in Sturgis delivering to Pioneer Foods in Rapid City. In 1969, worked at Pioneer Foods as produce supervisor for several years. His love for trucking took him back on the road with Old Home Bread/Sara Lee Bakery from 1979 until retirement in 2013.
 
Harold enjoyed meeting new people, with whom he quickly became friends . He enjoyed watching football and baseball. Singing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends were also some of his hobbies.
He was a member of the TREA and Eagles Club #3335.
 
Harold was united in marriage to Mary Jobgen on Oct. 22, 1992 in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Jobgen) Curtis, of Rapid City; one son, Todd (Curtis) Allen and his wife, Darlene, of Bellvue, Neb.; three daughters, Gwendolyn Morgan of Woodbridge, Va., Roxane (Mike) Schumacher of Aberdeen, and Sheila Ducello and her husband, Steve, of Gillette, Wyo.; one stepson, Damond Paulsen of Sioux Falls; two brothers, Melvin Curtis and his wife, Donna, of Casper, Wyo., and Richard Curtis and his wife, Marcia, of Rawlins, Wyo.; four sisters, Deloris Luken and her husband, Floyd, of Minneola, Texas, Joann Sanders and her husband, Ronald, of Spearfish, Esther Leeper and her husband, Harry, of Gillette, and Patty Senier and her husband, Gary, of Story, Wyo.; an aunt, Aunt Dorothy (Art) Thompson of Rapid City; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Vernon Curtis, Sr. and Stella (Chadwick) Curtis; a son, Harold Vernon Swanson; a granddaughter, Shannon Noel Butcher; and Mary’s parents, Len and Esther Jobgen.
 
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at the United Church in Philip.
 
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at the United Church in Philip with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
 
Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
 
Arrangements are with Rush Funeral Home of Philip.
