Visitation was held Sunday, May 5, 2024 at the Faith Area Memorial Chapel in Faith, SD.
Funeral services for Jake were held  Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Faith Community Center in Faith, SD, with Pastor Jess Harkins, officiating.  Burial followed at the Regent Cemetery in Regent, ND.
Jacob Leo Schauer was born August 4, 1938, on the family farm near Regent, ND to Jacob Schauer, Jr., and Louisa (Dill-Zimmerman) Schauer.  Jake was the eighth child in a family of 13 in which there were 8 brothers and 5 sisters. Jake learned the value of working hard on the family farm as he grew.  He attended Alden Township School for five years and then attended Regent Public School, graduating in 1957. After graduation he continued working on the family farm and enlisted into the Army National Guard, to which he proudly served from 1959-1967 including one year of active service at Ft. Riley during the Berlin Crisis. Jake also attended Bible college in Minneapolis, MN and business school in Fargo, ND and Rapid City, SD.
Jake was united in marriage to Arlene Carlson in Regent ND on June 20, 1965. Four children were born to Jake and Arlene: Jon David, Douglas, Bryant, and Sheila. Their first few years of marriage were spent between the farms in Reeder, ND and Miles City, MT.
Jake began farming with his brother Sam in 1964 when they purchased their first farm near Reeder, ND. That same year with a brother-in-law, Hank Colgrove, they leased a farm near Miles City, Montana. Jake continued his education during the winter months. In 1966, Jake and his brother Sam bought a farm near Buffalo, SD. In 1969, Jake and his brothers, Ron, Russ, David, Sam, and Carl purchased the Charles Fuller farm and Theo Kiker farm near Red Elm, SD. In 1974, Jake and Sam purchased land near Leola, SD and sold their farm near Buffalo SD. Jake continued to farm with his wife Arlene and sons Doug and Bryant until the time of his death. Jake attributes his success to the strict, loving upbringing of his mother and his trust in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Jake had a love of tractors that began with his first ride with his dad on an LA Case. He has an extensive collection of antique tractors of which a D21 Allis, LA Case and a 930 Case were just a few of his favorites. He competed in tractor pulls throughout the region, with his last pull being in Faith, SD in August 2023 using his prized D21 Allis.  He was discharged from the hospital earlier that morning, raced home and won the competition with a full-pull with his son Bryant by his side.
Jake and Arlene loved to travel and one of their greatest adventures was traveling to Israel in 2001.  In 2018 Jake took the entire family on a trip to Kentucky to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter to visit a life-size Noah’s Ark.  It was important to Jake that his family was able to see the stories in the Bible brought to life.
Jake’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He was at his happiest when spending time with them. He enjoyed his grandchildren very much and would take every opportunity to watch them compete in any event they were involved in.
Jake passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of April 27th with his loving wife Arlene along with his children by his side.
Jake is survived by his wife Arlene Schauer, Faith, SD; sons Doug (Amie) Schauer, and Bryant Schauer (Darcey Mollman), all of Faith, SD; daughter Sheila (Ryan) Fisher of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren Dace (Felicia) Fisher, Reanna Fisher, Brooklyn Schauer, Sydnie Schauer (Jaden Shockley), Jackson Schauer, and Kambelle Schauer.  Brothers Carl (Velma) Schauer, Mitchell, SD; Sam (Linda) Schauer, Leola, SD; Russell (Sharon) Schauer, Regent, ND.
