Jared Lewton, age 45

Mass of Christian Burial for Jared Lewton, age 45, of Hettinger, North Dakota, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Fr. Stephen Folorunso officiated, with burial to be held at a later date.
    Jared Bertin Lewton was born to his loving parents, Burton Lewton and Joyce Bauman, in Hettinger, North Dakota on August 27th, 1971. He was born and raised primarily in the Lodgepole, South Dakota area with a couple of years spent in Texas. He attended elementary at Sidney School and Hettinger High.
    His childhood years included getting into mischief with his cousins Shane and Danian Timm. They actually talked him into riding on a corn planter, which he fell off of and cut his arm, and they tried to hide it from his parents. He broke his nose several times trying to be Evel Knievel. He was involved in wrestling in which he broke his collar bone twice and FFA in his high school years.
    He attended Black Hills State in Spearfish after High school. He worked for Adams County Record for a few years before starting his own Newspaper, the Adams County Advocate. He was a hardworking man who did whatever it took to provide for his family. He was a farmer/rancher in the Lodgepole area from the time he was born until he graduated high school. He worked many of years with Nabors Drilling USA LP, Continental Resources and Oxi Oil, and his last endeavor was with Southwest Grain in Hettinger working with his cousin Shane.
    He married Samantha Braddock in Nov. of 1994 and two children were born to this union, Lacey and Matthew.
    In 2007 he married his loving wife Patricia Nowell Gurganus and became father to her three children Olivia (Josh) Harrison, Marylou (Andrew) Latham, and Joseph (Jena) Gurganus. He was a fun and loving grandfather to Austin, Nickole Brandt, Claire and Alex and baby Lewton. He provided for and loved all of his children the same. He was a father figure to many children. His nieces and nephews called him uncle silly because he loved to make them all laugh.
    Jared was the "rock" of the family to his siblings, Bridget (Ryan) Trainor, Dakota (Jacqueline) Lewton, Levi (Keri) Lewton, and Amanda (Ken) Hess
    Jared enjoyed spending time with his family doing whatever outdoor activity he could think of at the time or surprise his family with. He loved to take the family riding on ATV's, horses, and motorcycles. He enjoyed camping and teaching his kids life survival skills and building houses, stalls, or whatever other projects he attempted to complete, which was a lot. Jared always looked forward to the family outing throughout the year to catch up and tell stories.
    Jared was very strong in his Faith, He attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Shriners club. He was a Godparent to Ty Trainor and Confirmation Sponsor to Tristan Lewton.
    Once the kids were grown and out of the house, Patricia and Jared spent a lot of time traveling the world and enjoying each others company. They attended Sturgis, Country Thunder in Arizona annually, and just returned from a beautiful trip in Alaska. They were the love of each others lives. He was her everything and will be truly missed.
    Jared passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, near Gladstone, North Dakota.
    He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lewton, Hettinger, ND; father, Burton Lewton, Dickinson, ND; mother, Joyce Bauman, Rock Springs, WY; one son, Matthew Lewton, Hettinger, ND; one daughter, Lacey Lewton, Junction City, KS; one step-son, Joseph (Jena) Gurganus, Minot, ND; two step-daughters, Marylou (Andrew) Latham, Gillette, WY and Olivia (Josh) Harrison, Pinehurst, NC; 3 grandchildren, Austin Harrison and Nickole Brandt and baby Lewton; two brothers, Levi (Keri) Lewton, Lemmon, SD and Dakota (Jacqueline) Lewton, Broomfield, CO; two sisters, Bridget (Ryan) Trainor, Rapid City, SD and Amanda (Ken) Hess, Casper, WY; maternal grandmother, Leola Witt, Lemmon, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Woodrow and Elizabeth Lewton; and his maternal grandfather, Robert Witt.
    Visitation was on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary/Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. all at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger.
