John Wayne Iverson

John Wayne Iverson was born on March 9, 1946 and passed away on February 13, 2023.
John Wayne Iverson (also known as Wayne) was the son of John N. Iverson and Millicent P. Boyd-Iverson. John Wayne was born in Murdo, S.D. He went to 1st and 2nd grade in Pierre and lived with his Grandma and Grandpa Boyd and his cousin Jim Boyd. He started 3rd grade in Murdo when his sister, Norma Jean, started first grade. His parents then moved to Murdo so their children could attend school there. On weekends and summers the family would go back to the ranch and live 10 miles north of Murdo. Wayne attended Murdo Elementary and Murdo High School. After high school he attended college at Black Hills State in Spearfish. After the death of Wayne’s dad Wayne attended to the ranch until he passed away.
John Wayne loved the ranch where he and his sister Norma Jean were raised. He was an avid lover of cattle and horses. Wayne would saddle up his horse and take off riding and his mother or father would have to go look for him. They would often find him riding miles away even after dark.
In later years John Wayne  spent most of his time in Negril, Jamaica  and loved reggae music. Once COVID started he never returned to Jamaica.
He lived in Pierre for many years (when not in Jamaica) until the time of his death. Wayne still drove to the ranch to check on it and so forth.
John Wayne is survived by two children; Bryan J. Iverson, Rapid City; and Kristen (husband Miguel Reyes), along with their two children (Wayne’s grandchildren) Sophia and Erik Reyes, Oceanside, Calif.; one sister, Norma Jean Iverson-Huhn (husband Denny) of Wausau, Wisc.; one niece Emmylou Huhn-Underwood, (husband Josh) and daughter Hailey Faith-Underwood, Yucaipa, Calif.; one very special cousin, Jim Boyd Stover, Mo.; many Jamaican friends and friends he met from other places that also spent time in Jamaica; many cousins on Iverson and Boyd sides; and many other friends.
John Wayne was cremated and a memorial in Murdo is pending.
Cards and condolences may be sent to Norma Jean Iverson-Huhn, 235511 Denmark Rd., Wausau, Wis. 54403.
