Joyce Ernst

Joyce Ernst, age 95, of Pierre, formerly of Draper, passed away November 7, 2016 at Kelly’s Retirement Home in Pierre.
Joyce Elaine Lingscheit was born October 26, 1921 in Parkston, S.D., to William and Cornelia (Ryder) Lingscheit. She grew up in Draper, attending schools in Jones County where she graduated from high school. 
Joyce moved to California in 1942 where she began dating Wilmar Ernst, and they married July 18, 1943 in Bell Gardens, Calif. They returned to the Draper area in 1946 where Joyce enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. Joyce was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed flowers, painting and photography.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilmar; son-in-law Bill; brother Ronnie; and two sisters Sylvia and Bonnie.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Rita Smithburg of Sundance, Wyo., and Sheila (Dale) Bechard of Oak Hills, Calif.; grandchildren, Joni (Bob) Latham, Stephanie Booth, Jeffrey (Jana) Bechard, Julie (Skip) Wylie and Traci Jaquez; seven great grandchildren: Jamie (Audrey) Lubken, Joshua Lubken, Lindy (Jason) Watt, Lita (Travis) Eddy, Dalton Latham, Louis Katsikaris III and Heather Katsikaris; nine great great grandchildren: Tariq, Lincoln, and Laney Lubken, Charli, Tatum, and Tinley Watt, Spencer Lubken, Emily Katsikaris and Louis Katsikaris IV and other extended family and friends.
Memorials may be divided between St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Draper Cemetery Fence Project.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 12 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Draper. Burial followed at the Draper Cemetery.
