Karla Ainslie

Karla Ainslie, age 54, of Philip, S.D., died on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.
 
Karla Jean Ainslie was born Dec. 4, 1962, in Kadoka, the fourth child of George and Kay (Stephenson) Ainslie. 
 
She grew up and received her education in Philip, graduating in 1981. During her childhood, she enjoyed basketball and softball, and taught many kids swimming lessons. She loved the sun and being outside.
 
Karla was united in marriage to Jeff Schumacher in September 1981 in Philip, and to this union were born two children, Jake and Jackie. They made their home in Philip before moving to various places in western South Dakota. 
 
In November 1992, Karla was united in marriage to Mike Livingston. They made their home in Pierre, where Karla obtained her journeyman electricians license. She moved to Thurman, Iowa, where she worked as an electrician for Local #22 Union. 
 
In 2011, she returned to Philip, where she worked for Philip Livestock Auction until October 2016, when she was diagnosed with stage four cancer.
 
She had a unique sense of fashion, and was known for her various outfits while loading and unloading cattle. She looked forward to her annual Easter egg hunt she had for the kids and the adults. 
Survivors include her son, Jacob (Alex) Schumacher of Glenville, Minn., and her daughter, Jackalynn “Jackie” Schumacher (Lance Swenson) of Brookings; five grandchildren, James and Josey Schumacher, Peytan Schumacher and Madysen and Grady Swenson; her parents, George and Kay Ainslie of Philip; three sisters, Diane (Gary) Walker of Rapid City, Cheryl Behrend of Philip, and Marlene Scheessele of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Karla was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Ainslie on Oct. 3, 1993; her maternal grandparents, Katherine and Gordon Stephenson; her paternal grandparents, Charles and Reland Ainslie; and a cousin, Cathy Knight.
 
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Feb. 20, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Gary Oreshoski as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers a memorial is established.
 
Arrangements were with Rush Funeral Home of Philip.
