Kurt Flesner
Kurt Flesner, age 39, of Milesville, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at his home near Milesville.
Kurt Carson Flesner, born February 24, 1985, at Rapid City Regional Hospital to Gordon and Trudy Flesner. Kurt arrived shortly after his twin sister Katie, joining older sister Sarah. Three years later twin sisters Sherrill and Samantha arrived, completing the family.
Kurt attended Milesville Country school through 6th grade. In 7th grade he made the transition to Philip Jr. High so he could participate in school sports.
Kurt’s passion for sports began at an early age with T-ball and AAU wrestling. This would quickly move into baseball, football, and varsity level wrestling as he entered Jr. High. Kurt was happy to earn one of Mr. Donnelly’s nicknames “Kurtis T Justice”. Kurt qualified for state wrestling from 8th grade through his senior year, his hard work and dedication forever earned him a place with Philip’s many greats on the gym’s state achievement banner. Wrestling was more than a sport for Kurt, he made friends throughout the state while waiting to take the mat. Kurt loved to play football with his teammates, he and friends would often relive memories of favorite game moments. Those who competed with and against Kurt knew of his tenacity and relentless effort, he left everything on the mat and field both in practice and competition. His track career was his shortest, just his 7th grade year, when asked if he was going out again in 8th grade, he replied “why would I run around in circles when I can make money and have fun branding”.
After graduating from Philip High School in 2004, Kurt went on to Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City. After a year of college he took a break and moved to Boulder, Co., where he worked. Kurt then jumped back on the college wagon, moving to Brookings to attend SDSU eventually transferring to South East Tech where he earned his degree. To say he enjoyed these years is an understatement. Kurt’s college years formed the man he was to become and was the root for many lifelong friendships.
Kurt returned to Milesville after college to farm in 2013, settling in to make the area home. Kurt was blessed with his son Cayson on August 8th of 2018 and 2nd son Brexton September 26th of 2019. The boys were and will remain the absolute treasures of his life. Kurt was the “fun uncle” and it was a blessing to watch him give his love of life, fun and family to his boys, nieces and nephews. Kurt was able to build a beautiful home for his family in 2019. It was important to him, to have a home friends and family were able to gather together in.
Kurt worked hard and he played hard. Many of us were able to join him on the dance floor or at the card table. Kurt was never afraid to roll the dice and let it ride.
Family, friends, farming, ranching and stocks filled his days. Building a pivot on his farm ground was a huge accomplishment and great pride of his.
Although Kurt’s time was cut too short, his love, friendship, and memory will live with those who knew him forever. His contagious laughter and open nature put those around him at ease. Kurt’s huge heart and giving nature improved the lives of those he shared it with.
