Larry D. Barnica

Graveside services for Larry D. Barnica, age 86, of Glad Valley, SD, were held  Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Hillview Cemetery at Isabel, SD.  Pastor Harold Delbridge officiated with full military honors.
    Larry, a dearly loved husband, father, and grandpa passed away on Monday evening, May 13, 2019 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.
    Larry is survived by his wife, Sue Barnica, Glad Valley, SD; two daughters, Cindy Sue (Bret) Pederson, Glad Valley, SD and Laura Sue (Kenny) Gill, Kit Carson, CO; nine grandchildren; and one brother, Ricky (Janet) Barnica, Dothan, AL.
    Larry was one of seven children born to Ray and Nora Barnica. Larry was born at Big Springs, Nebraska on February 23, 1933. Larry graduated from Big Springs High School in 1950.
    Once Larry was out of school, he then served in the Army, went on to forestry school, and finally came to South Dakota to farm and ranch. Once in South Dakota, he met his beloved wife Sue Trent, and was married on October 17, 1964. They were married for 54 years, and looking forward to making it to their 55th anniversary in October. Larry and Sue had three children. Larry worked hard, and loved the land and his cattle. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors about farming and ranching.
    If Larry could spare a moment from work, he loved to spend time with his family outdoors fishing, hunting and trapping. His kids and grandchildren treasure the memories they have of being with their “Papa” and getting to do these activities with him. His family was honored to have had the chance to be with him, and looked at Larry as a wonderful man that will be greatly missed, and will always be cherished by them.
    Larry is survived by his wife Sue Barnica of Glad Valley, SD, daughters Cindy Sue (Bret) Pederson of Glad Valley, SD, and Laura Sue (Kenny) Gill of Kit Carson, CO; a brother Ricky (Janet) Barnica of Dothan, AL, grandchildren GP Pederson, JB Pederson, CL Pederson, JW Pederson, and JC Pederson all of Glad Valley, SD, Isabella Gill and Jayme Gill of Kit Carson, CO, Sarah Barnica and Seth Barnica of Isabel, SD who he loved and was proud of, and numerous nieces and newphews who were very special to him.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Micky Lee Barnica on January 5, 2013; sister, Betty Klein; and brothers, Vernon Barnica, Jimmy Barnica and Lee Barnica.
