Margaret Moe

Margaret (Blakeslee) Moe, age 95, Alexandria, S.D., passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Philip Nursing Home. 

 

Margaret Anne was born December 14, 1921, to Walter B. Blakeslee and Minnie (Sleicher) Blakeslee in Eddyville, Neb. 

 

She attended Eddyville school, graduating in 1939. She went on to school for bookkeeping and after graduation moved to California with her sister, Phyllis, where she worked as a timekeeper for McDonnell-Douglas. Later, she moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, and worked as a bookkeeper for Union Carbon and Carbide where she met her future husband, Earl Moe. 

 

Margaret and Earl were married December 18, 1948, in Council Bluffs and she continued to work for Union Carbon and Carbide until they welcomed their first child, Roy Allen, in 1951. Shortly after that, they bought a farm 13 miles north of Alexandria and worked it until 1999. During that time they welcomed two more children, Walter, (1954) and Cheri, (1957). They then built a house in Fulton in 1999 and retired there, later moving from there to Mitchell to a town home. 

 

In 2013, due to the passing of her husband, Earl, Margaret moved to Silverleaf Assisted Living in Philip. In 2015, she moved to the Philip Nursing Home. 

 

Margaret is survived by a son, Walter A. Moe (Bonita), and a daughter, Cheri L. Heeb (Dean); six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

 

She was preceded in passing by her husband, Earl G. Moe; a son, Roy Allen Moe; two sisters, Barbara Krueger and Phyllis Hamer; and one brother, Walter Blakeslee, Jr..

Funeral services were held Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. 

 

Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Fulton. 

 

Bittner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
