Marion Arment

Marion "Fritz" Arment, age 86, of Wanblee, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

 
Marion Alfred Arment, better known as “Fritz” to his family and friends, was born September 15, 1933, at home in the same house that is still standing today on Bear In The Lodge Creek the son of Glen and Ethel (Vogelgesang) Arment. He grew up on his parent’s farm west of Wanblee and attended grade school at Garner School and high school at Kadoka.
 
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953, and honorably discharged in 1955. While in the Army he served one year in Germany. When he returned from the Army, Marion worked with Leslie Hancock in Longvalley where he met and was united in marriage to Velma Terkildsen on June 30, 1957. They lived and worked for Leslie for seven years. Velma and he moved back home to Bear in the Lodge Creek in 1964 where they resided until his death. 
 
Marion raked hay and stacked bales in June of 2019 just before his operation on July 19th then spent five months in the hospitals in Rapid City and Phillip.
 
Marion was a member of the American Legion Post #240 of Martin, South Dakota. 
 
Survivors include his wife Velma of Wanblee; one son Steve (Nadia) Arment of Wanblee; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother Grant (Carol) Arment of Norfolk, Nebraska; one sister Omel (Edwin) Weaver of Rapid City; and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Gloria Stratton and her husband Jim.
 
A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, December 20, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka.
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka with Dave Morrison officiating.
 
Interment with military honors will be held at the Kadoka Cemetery.
 
Arrangements are with Rush Funeral Home of Kadoka.
