Mavis Ann Pope
Mavis Ann Pope, 72 passed away on August 26, 2015.
Mavis was born to Melvin Earl and Maude (Vernon) Whitaker in Draper. She grew up and attended country school in the Draper and Murdo area. She married Marvin Pope on April 27, 1962 and moved to Pierre where she has lived since the 60s. She worked at various places in Pierre, most notably at the Donut Shop where she loved to greet people and see the smiles the donuts brought. She was a mom to everyone.
She loved her flower gardens, wind chimes, music, humming birds and solar lights.
Mavis is survived by her mother Maude Whitaker of Pierre, her children; Lisa and fiancée Jamison Peevyhouse of Martin, Tenn.,, Allen Pope fiancée Mikelyn Westphal of Gettysburg, and Edwin (Melissa) Pope of Pierre, grandchildren; Lane, Collin and Taytin, Keely and Keagan. She is also survived by a brother Larry Whitaker of San Diego and Harley Pope of Brookings, S.D.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, father Melvin, two brothers Earl and Francis and two sisters Ellen and Hazel.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 1 at Isburg Funeral Chapel with a prayer service following. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 2 at the First United Methodist Church in Pierre with burial at the Riverside Cemetery.
