August 2, 1931 - August 2, 2015

Nicholas Joseph “Nick” Berg, 84, formerly of Rapid City, died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance, Neb.

Nick was born on August 2, 1931 in Sanborn, Minn., to Fred and Anna (Soukup) Berg. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1952 and was honorably discharged in February 1954.

He met the love of his life, Marge Jankord in Watertown, S.D., and they were married on November 12, 1955. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.

Nick was in the lumber business which brought him to Rapid City, and later to Wall, where he retired. Nick and Marge then moved to Alliance, Neb., to manage Berg’s Jewelry and do the accounting for Taco John’s of Alliance and Chadron.

Nick enjoyed Toast Masters, one act plays, church choirs, fishing and sporting events and his beloved Minnesota Vikings, but most of all he loved visiting with family and friends.

Grateful for sharing his loving life and surviving him are his wife, Marge; his sons, Dennis (Lori) Berg of Rapid City, Dale (Susan) Berg of Deadwood, Don (Dorothy) Berg of Alliance; his daughter, Dawn Shull of Rapid City; his sisters, Vikki Scarbrough and Lucille Lewey; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; five sisters; and a great-grandson, Noel Shull.

Memorial services will be Thursday, August 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance.

Committal service will be Friday, August 14 at 9:30 a.m., at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
