Richard Orr, age 83, of Chino Hills, Calif., died November 11, 1916 at St. Jude’s Hospital in Santa Ana.
He was born August 26, 1933, in Murdo, S.D., the oldest child of Rex and Sally (Anderson) Orr. In 1939 his family moved to Wessington, South Dakota where Richard spent his youth.
In 1948 he returned to Murdo to attend high school, living with his Uncle Paul Anderson's family, and graduating in 1952 from Murdo High School. He and his brother, Kip, then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was employed for 35 years at Northrop Corp. until his retirement. He has lived in Chino Hills, California for 10 years and previous to that resided in Anaheim.
He was a member of Chino American Legion Post 299 and helped bring the Vietnam memorial wall to Chino this year. He enjoyed participating in Townsend Junior High School’s veterans recognition event.
He is survived by his children, Sheri Denzin and husband Ed of Chino Hills, Georgia Beckett and husband Steve of Chino Hills, Patrick Orr and wife Jeannine of Flagstaff, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Lyle (Betty) Orr of Aberdeen, S.D., Shirley Duxbury of Huron, S.D., Madge (Al) Perez of Auburn, W.A., Keith (Jan) Orr of Newton, Iowa , and Ilene (Stan) Burmood of Orem, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 52 years, Martha, his brother and sister-in-law Kip and Meredith Orr, and brother-in-law, Jack Duxbury.
Services were held Nov. 16 at Fairhaven Mortuary in Santa Ana. A reception followed at Chino American Legion Post 299.
