McKay is Days of ’76 Junior Miss

Wall High School’s 15-year-old Jayton McKay has earned the Junior Miss title at this year’s Days of ‘76 Rodeo.
Competing Monday, July 25, she was presented the title, crown, banner, buckle and saddle on Tuesday, July 26. During this upcoming year, she will attend various rodeos representing her title and promoting the Days of ‘76 Rodeo. Her reign will continue through next year’s Days of ‘76, when she will then hand down her title and crown to the 2017 Junior Miss.
McKay has competed in rodeo, particularly in the queen competitions, for approximately four years now. Her self-proclaimed motto has been, “She believed she could, so she did.”
“Working with Ron Burns, the chairman of the Days of ‘76, and the rest of the rodeo committee was great,” said McKay. “Ron and the rest were so sweet to me and the rest of the girls. Being the youngest queen all week was awesome. The older queens were so nice to be with and they made the week so much fun.”
McKay, an upcoming sophomore, is the daughter of Shaun and Lynn McKay, Wall. The horse which she rode while earning her new title is Cash, a sorrel gelding.
