Three Scotties to state golf tournament

The Region 6B Golf Tournament was held Monday, May 23, at the Hart Ranch and Elks golf courses. The roster included 14 schools.
“Josie (Rush) shot really solid again, posting an 87 for third place,” said Philip head coach Doug Hauk. “It is a tossup every week between the top flight of girls to see who will be the medalist. The first time at regions and trying to qualify for state caused Bobbi (Antonsen), Mikayla (Addison) and Mallory (Vetter) to come in with scores higher than last week. Mallory did a great job, for only her second 18-hole tourney.
“The boys were at Hart Ranch and, as always, they had the course set up extremely difficult for regions. We had two boys qualify for state, Trew DeJong and Carson Hamill. Playing at Hart Ranch was best summed up by Keagan’s (Fitch) statement  “everything was going great and all of the sudden I had a quadruple bogey.” Logan struggled to finish the day, after pulling a muscle in his back on the front nine. We were hoping to get three boys in so that we could compete as a team at state, but glad to have the two boys make it to state.
“The top half of the golfers in the boys’ region is as solid as it has been for a long time, and will only lose a couple to graduation. The girls’ region will be extremely tough next year, as all of the girls qualifying for state will be back next year,” concluded Hauk.
The Philip Scotties boys were lead by Trew DeJong and Carson Hamill, who both ended with scores of 101 to tie for 13th place. DeJong shot a 49+52=101 and Hamill shot a 47+54=101. Keegan Fitch claimed the 21st spot, just missing the 20th spot cut-off to qualify for the state tournament. He shot a 50+58=108. Logan Hand scored a 56+62=118 for  27th place.
The Scotties girls were lead by Josie Rush, who took the third place spot with a score of 48+39=87. Mikayla Addison and Bobbi Antonsen tied for 25th with totals of 140 each, Addison shot a 75+65=140 and Antonsen shot a 73+67=140. Mallory Vetter finished her season with an 89+72=161.
The boys’ State Class B Golf Tournament is June 6-7 at Hart Ranch near Rapid City. The girls’ State Class B Golf Tournament is June 6-7 at the Elks Golf Course, Rapid City.
